There are about ten « all-inclusive » hotels in Holguin, distributed on six different beaches. The hotels are rated from 2½-stars up to the luxurious Paradisus Rio de Oro (5-star) located on the best beach of Holguin, Playa Esmeralda. The airport is a bit far from the resorts, at least an hour, but the Cuba back-country is splendid.

Holguin is divided into 14 municipalities and hotels are clustered in the municipality of Rafael Freyre. The white sand beaches lapped by clear water of Holguin are dense enough for walkers. There’s no long continuous beach in Holguin, the longest being Playa Pesquero in the western sector of the hotel zone.

It’s beautiful. It’s hot. You’ll love it.The best thing is to reuesqt a room overlooking the ocean. Oceanview is always the nicest and best. You can sit out at night on your balcony and listen to the waves.Choose a room on the highest floor. You will find the ground floor rooms to be more damp and mustier. However, at Playa Pesquero, I believe it’s just two floor villa rooms. Either way, go for a beachfront. It doesn’t usually take that long to get to the pools and restaurants from wherever you are at most resorts.Have fun!
